August 20 2020

While the risks of covid-19 continue to pose challenges for schools, our education committee and teachers have come up with some creative ways to keep our students engaged in their education while keeping our community safe. We hope to return soon to in-person and hybrid classes, but will be starting our year via digital learning as we feel that it is the safest option at this time. We will be monitoring the public schools to determine the safest ways to reopen our hybrid model program. We have outlined below a brief summary of opportunities that will be available for each grade as we begin our year.

B’Yachad- Preschool/K

This program will run once a month on  the third Sunday of the month.  The digital class will run from 10:00am-10:45 am with Gail Cohen and Kate Cykman.

Grades 1-3

Students in grades K-3 will continue to participate in the digital Sunday school program that runs on the first and third Sunday’s of the month.  Their class time will be from 10:00-10:45 and will focus on Judaic studies.

These students will also have a 1 on 1 Hebrew session at a time that is convenient for both the educator and your family.  You will get a letter the first week of school with your child’s Hebrew Tutors Name and contact information.

Grades 4-6

Students in grades 4-6 will continue to participate in the digital Sunday school program that runs on the first and third Sunday’s of the month.  Their class time will be from 11:00-11:45 and will focus on Judaic studies.  These students will also participate in Tuesday afternoon classes from 4:00pm-5:00pm.

These students will also have a 1 on 1 Hebrew session at a time that is convenient for both the educator and your family.  You will get a letter the first week of school with your child’s Hebrew Tutors Name and contact information.

 March 19th 2020
As this week has progressed and more information has come out from the CDC, we have determined that the safest option for our congregants is to close our physical space for the time being.  Please look for an update about finding zoom services, programming and Religious School.

March 16th 2020

In accordance with the most updated guidelines from the Maine CDC, and a request to limit all non-essential gatherings, as well as Beth El's valuing of our community health and well being, we will be canceling this weekend events. This includes services, Religious School and Tuesday's supper club. We will send an update in regards to next week’s events and classes by midweek. The Beth El office will continue to be open, and we are looking for ways to offer alternative options for holding services and religious school. As always Beth El and Rabbi Lerner are here for you and available by phone, email, etc.

When we come together to pray, we draw on the strength and courage of one another to face the unknown with determination. And, when we are not able to pray in physical community, we are still able to pray, knowing that the words we say are being recited by Jews everywhere, in our shared hope for healing, our shared belief in a better tomorrow. Here is our traditions prayer for healing and Beth El's Prayer for our world.

רְפָאֵֽנוּ, יְיָ, וְנֵרָפֵא

Heal us, God, and let us be healed.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְי...הַמֵּכִין מִצְעֲדֵי גָֽבֶר

Praise to You, Adonai…who strengthens our steps.

מִי שֶׁבֵּרַךְ אֲבוֹתֵֽינוּ...יִשְׁלַח...רְפוּאַת הַנֶּֽפֶשׁ, וּרְפוּאַת הַגּוּף

May the one who blessed our ancestors… send a complete renewal of body and spirit.
