Empty Bowls Fundraising Event and Dinner

The Mitzvah Corps students at Kesher are embarking on a unit that focuses on the problem of food insecurity and the Jewish texts that address this issue. This program was developed by the Social Action Committee and Rabbi Weiss, with a goal of promoting Jewish values and tikkun olam while learning about the Jewish response to hunger. The activities are sponsored by a generous grant from the JCEA.

This program is based on the concept of Empty Bowls and involves glazing ceramic bowls along with studying Jewish sources on responses to hunger. The bowls will be sold at a simple dinner of soup and bread, to be held on March 26th. As part of the educational component, the Mitzvah Corps students will discuss and decide how they want to distribute proceeds from the sale of the bowls, along with any contributions received, to address food insecurity.
