Rabbi Danny Zemel and Liz Lerman will lead Shabbat service with musical accompaniment by David Halvorson (bass) and David Simonds (clarinet).

Rabbi Danny Zemel led the congregation at Temple Micah in Washington, D.C. for over 40 years before retiring in June 2025. His 20-year involvement with Synagogue 2000 (a project focused on the transformation of American synagogues) was instrumental in shaping his vision of synagogue life and the role of rabbi. He feels his primary role as rabbi is grappling with the challenge of “translating” the inherited Jewish past into a theology and practice that speak to today.

Liz Lerman is a choreographer, writer, educator, and recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a MacArthur “Genius Grant.” She has been a long-time member of Temple Micah in Washington, D.C., where she has collaborated with the congregation and its rabbis; and she was a part of Synagogue 2000,…
